No matter who you are, you deserve to be a part of a community and participate in activities that you love. Just because you are different doesn’t mean you should be excluded from having fun, which is why we at EaseCare value NDIS social and community participation so much.

Over the course of this blog post, we will discuss what social and community participation is, the activities it offers, and how important creating these inclusive spaces is.

What is NDIS Social and Community Participation?

Before describing social and community participation, I think we should first discuss who the NDIS is. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an agency run by the Australian government that helps people with disadvantages experience parts of their life that they sometimes miss out on.

Social and community participation is all about meeting people similar to you and participating in fun activities together. This creates inclusive spaces where people of all types are given the opportunity to experience sports, hobbies, and social activities. The NDIS helps to fund these experiences so that everyone can be included.

Social and Community Activities

There are many different social and community support activities which you can participate in. Here are the three types of activities that the NDIS are able to help fund:

Sports

If you’ve ever wanted to participate in physical sports activities, this is the perfect opportunity for you. We are able to support you while you play sports, go to the gym, or even join a club. You will be required to pay for the costs of the activity but all the support required for you to participate in the sport will be fully covered and funded.

Hobbies

Have you ever wanted to dance, surf, play music, or even do photography? Well now’s your chance to join in on the fun. Through our participation program, we offer the opportunity to pursue a hobby that you have always wanted to do.

So don’t hold back, if you have a hobby you really want to try, then you can pursue it. Our goal is to provide you with the necessary support to live your life the way you want to.

Social

Not everyone wants to participate in sports or hobbies, which is completely okay, some people prefer to hang out and socialise with others. This is why we offer the opportunity for you to participate in social events with the people you enjoy being around. We understand the value of forging strong bonds with others, and we want to help foster those relationships.

The Importance of Inclusive Spaces

Inclusive spaces play a crucial part in allowing everyone to be included in social and community-based activities. The importance of inclusive design and accessibility only continues to grow, emphasising how vital it is that our spaces include everyone. These values should be at the core of any space during its design and development.

An inclusive space makes an effort to create a place that is accessible, welcoming, and accommodating for people of all kinds. This involves including wheelchair-friendly options, and readily available tools and support for everyone.

Everyone deserves an equal chance at life, and the implementation of inclusive spaces means that no one is defined by a difference in ability.
